DUTIES:
Physician (Primary Care/Geriatrici! an/Palliative)
The
Wm. S. Middleton Memorial Veterans Hospital in Madison, WI is pleased to
recruit for a full-time board eligible/certified Geriatrician with preference
for advanced training/board eligibility/certification in Palliative Care
Medicine with significant experience in urgent/emergency care of medically
unstable patients for a combined inpatient and outpatient position.
The
candidate will provide a full scope of primary care services including
outpatient geriatric assessment and consultation including, but not limited to:
diagnosis, treatment, coordination of care, preventive care and health
maintenance to geriatric veteran patients. Physicians must be cognizant
of, and comply with, all VA policies and procedures, as well as pertinent state
and federal regulations.
In
addition, the physician will be responsible for inpatient and outpatient
assessment, diagnosis and treatment of veter! ans receiving palliative care and
hospice services. In this position, the candidate will have a significant
role in care coordination, transitions of care and teaching with emphasis on
teamwork across disciplines.
The
position involves inpatient ward care and occasional staffing of the emergency
department. During ward rotations, call is one in five and one in four weekends
for general medicine admissions including being primarily responsible for
critically ill patients. The emergency department serves non-trauma,
non-obstetrics patients suffering acute medical illness. These shifts may
include after hours as well as weekend coverage.
Qualified
applicants will preferentially have advanced training in geriatric medicine and
palliative care medicine and be board-eligible or certified by the American
Board of Internal Medicine.

egree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine.
Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
