POSITION SUMMARY:
The Physician - Internist is responsible for providing high quality health care services to Group Health Cooperative of South Central Wisconsin (GHC-SCW) members. The Physician is specialized in Internal Medicine. The Physician provides a wide range of evaluation, management, and procedural services to GHC-SCW members and fee-for-service patients requesting care. The Physician serves under the general supervision and direction of the Medical Director with additional accountabilities to the Site Chief, MD for the assigned clinic. The Physician is expected to use his/her professional judgment at all times in relation to making recommendations to patients for their personal medical care.

1. Current, unrestricted Wisconsin State Licensure as a Physician in a primary care specialty required.
2. Completion of a residency in Internal Medicine or comparable experience required. Board certification is highly desirable. Ability to become Board Certified within six (6) months of employment.
3. Knowledge and/or experience in managed health care delivery required.
4. Ability to maintain currency in area of expertise in p! rimary care field.
5. Current valid Federal Controlled Substance registration (DEA) Certificate.
6. Possession of or eligibility for a valid Healthcare Provider CPR/AED certificate is required. Employee must obtain certification within four (4) months of employment.

SUPERVISES: This position does not supervise subordinate staff; however, the incumbent provides leadership, guidance and direction to assigned clinic staff.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Performance of Staff Physician responsibilities. Provision of direct primary care to GHC-SCW patients. [Approximately 85% - 90% as determined/assigned]
a. Provide direct medical care in area of training and expertise. This includes, but is not limited to:
- Obtain appropriate patient history
- Perform physical examination
- Determine and order appropriate laboratory tests, radiological studies and other t! ests.
- Evaluate findings from history, exam and testing.
- Determine diagnosis or differential diagnosis.
- Develop treatment plan and follow-up appropriate to the above
- Prescribe pharmaceuticals and other treatment regimes as appropriate to assessed medical conditions.
- Provide health maintenance and screening activities, periodic health assessments, and coordination of the following, health education, prenatal counseling, school physicals, family planning and educational/counseling services as appropriate.
- Refer patients to specialists and to relevant patient care practitioners, as appropriate.
c. Integrate inpatient and ambulatory care, nursing home visits, and home health visits to provide an appropriate continuum of care.
d. Help to provide continuous care for patients admitted to hospitals and nursing homes, including maki! ng onsite hospital and nursing home rounds.
e. Provide needed speci! alty care for patients admitted to hospitals and nursing homes by arranging for specialist physician care of these patients.
f. Maintain availability to members for consultation and/or approval of emergency care either personally or though call arrangement with other GHC-SCW Primary Care Physicians.
g. Perform all duties as required per employment agreement.
2. Performance of administrative, clerical and team work functions supporting direct patient care. [5-10%]
a. Assist all other members of the health care delivery system to assure optimum care of all patients.
b. Collaborate with the Chief of Staff, Clinic Site Chief, Patient Care Services Manager and the Clinic Manager to assure excellent operational standards.
c. Direct and coordinate the patient care activities of physician assistants, nurse practitioners, nursing and other support staff, as required.
d. Participate in the grievance, audit and continuing education, quality assura! nce, and service quality improvement programs through attendance of and participation in committee and team meetings.
e. Maintain acceptable medical records that support continuity of care in a timely fashion including the use of electronic medical records systems.
f. Participate in recruitment efforts for new clinical staff.
g. Participate in internal training and educational sessions including EPIC training and others.
h. Perform assigned GHC-SCW staff administrative duties.
3. Performance of other duties as assigned. [5%]
